Coffee Hour

Our Sunday morning worship is immediately followed by a Coffee Hour in Johnson Hall. Coffee Hour hosts are assigned by a rotating schedule, organized alphabetically by last name. Be sure to check our announcements insert in the bulletin each week to see if it’s your turn to bring goodies!

Worship Service Participants

The schedule of worship participants for each month is listed on the back page of that month’s newsletter. Please note on your calendar which date(s) you are serving. If there is a conflict with your schedule, please arrange for a substitute and inform the office of that change so it can be published in the weekly bulletin.
Liturgists serve on the Sunday indicated on the schedule. Greeters and ushers serve the whole month.Communion Stewards serve communion on the first Sunday of the month.
If you would like to be a liturgist, greeter, usher or communion steward for future months, please contact Rev. Kara Scroggins at kara@northbethesdaumc.org.

PrimeTime is a program designed for children from 4 years of age through fifth grade.  The children participate in worship through the children’s moment and then move to PrimeTime.  We use the Grow*Proclaim*Serve
curriculum for this hour of learning and fun.
In addition to arts and crafts activities and games, the children also do outreach projects such as Easter Baskets for families at NIH, sending candy to Africa at Christmas time and writing letters to the soldiers in Iraq. Through learning and service, they are living out the commandment of Jesus: “love your neighbor as yourself.”

The use of North Bethesda United Methodist Church (NBUMC) facilities for weddings or other occasions requires approval by church officials. Information and application forms for facility use can be accessed on our building use page.

The nursery is open from 9:15am until after worship services each Sunday. We have an experienced child care provider to care for children ages three months to three years. Nursery care is also available during certain special events. Contact the church office to inquire.

We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month. We offer an open table, meaing that all persons are encouraged to share in this meal of life. The usher will invite you to the altar rail. We take communion by intinction: the bread will be placed in your hand, then you may dip the bread in the second chalice and then eat the bread. If you wish to commune, but cannot come to the altar, please speak with an usher.

Special Needs Accommodation

North Bethesda UMC recognizes that some who wish to worship with us have special needs, and NBUMC attempts to meet those needs so as to be as inclusive as possible. For those with special needs, the following provisions are available:
  • Quality nursery care provided during worship service and Church School for ages infant through three years. The nursery is located on the lower level with the Church School.
  • Handicapped accessibility with wheelchair seating, wheelchair accessible ramps from our parking lot to the main level, and accessible restrooms.

  • Tapes of Sunday services available to shut-ins upon request. If needed, a cassette player can be provided.
  • Assisted listening devices available upon request in the Sanctuary. In addition, a new sound system with enhanced sound was recently installed in the Sanctuary.
  • Interpreter for hearing-impaired individuals available during worship service upon request.
