Community Outreach/Events

The Missions Program is a vital ministry of NBUMC.(updated information to come!):

  1. The Spring Rummage Sale and the Fall Community Flea Market.  Donations and volunteer efforts are provided to local, national and international organizations.
  2. NBUMC has annual commitments with the Community Based Shelter, part of Community Ministries of Montgomery County; Drs. Ellen and Jeffrey Hoover, administrators of the mission in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo; and AHEAD, Inc. based in Bethesda, Maryland.

Community Outreach Events

NBUMC holds a number of events throughout the year that welcome the local community. Below, you will find short descriptions of each event. All events are free to attend unless otherwise noted. Click through to each events’ page for more information.
Spring Rummage Sale
Drop off your donations of appliances, electronics, books, clothing, collectibles, furniture, household items, knick-knacks and toys, and NBUMC will sell them to raise money for our missions projects! Usually held on the first Saturday in June, this event takes over our entire building, and donations are accepted during the week prior to the sale.

Vacation Bible Camp
Vacation Bible Camp takes place annually, usually one of the last weeks in June, just after school is out for the Summer.  North Bethesda has taken a turn away from the commercial “canned” Bible School curriculums we have used in the past.  We are now designing our own camp, with the same fun format but with a community service, or missions, theme.  This camp lasts one week, and takes place in the evenings (Monday through Friday) with a special celebration in worship the following Sunday.
Christmas Tree Lot

Each December, a friend of NBUMC, Angelo Serkedakis, brings his gorgeous Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes to our church. Unlike other roadside Christmas-tree sellers in our area, at our lot you can get out and walk amongst the trees, and Angelo and his men will even help you secure the tree to your car!

Fine Arts Events
The Fine Arts Committee supports dramatic and musical productions for the church throughout the year, including our most recent production, “Quilters.” They also sponsor an annual Maundy Thursday drama, as well as our Easter Sunrise Service. Visit the Fine Arts Events page for information on upcoming events and productions!
